Pam
It’s no secret that I love certain hotel brands. The Park Hyatt. Kimpton Hotels. Another brand that I love is the Hyatt Thompson brand so when we changed our annual retreat to the Thompson Houston, I was excited to stay at another one. I was NOT disappointed.
The Thompson Houston is a Category 5 hotel, and we spent 20K points per night and used a SUA (suite upgrade award) for one room, a Category 1-7 free-night award for the second room (mine), and another 20K points for the second night.
The hotel is located in scenic Buffalo Bayou Park with amazing views of the Houston skyline. Seeing those skyscrapers lit up at night was one of my favorite parts of the hotel, and I kept my drapes open until the last minute before I was going to sleep.

You can see the skyline view at check-in.
We left our car with the valet (free for Globalists) and entered on the bottom floor. From here, we rode the elevator to the 7th floor, where check-in was. It was magnificently adorned for Christmas and was simply gorgeous! Check-in was quick as they welcomed us as Globalists and told us we would have $40/person for breakfast and that the complimentary breakfast benefit also included the option to have breakfast delivered by room service.

Yummy breakfast.
We went up one more floor to the 8th, where our rooms were located. I wasn’t in the suite, but I couldn’t complain—it was a massive room with a king bed, a dresser, a sofa, and a beverage/mini-bar area. The colors and furnishings were beautiful and reflected that we were in the Southwest area—very tastefully decorated.

Globalist treats and a letter.

The bathroom was also spacious, with a sitting area for makeup application, a large shower, and a separate toilet area. Grey hooded robes were a pleasant addition.

The service at the hotel was outstanding. On arrival, we had some specialty potato chips and glasses of lemon and mint water waiting for us in our rooms. One of my favorite features of the Thompson brand is the Bowmaker toiletries line. They have an earthy, musky smell, and I like them so much that I’ve purchased more on Amazon.
We treated ourselves to massages at the spa, and while pricey, they were outstanding. The grounding room was so lovely with numerous beverages and healthy treats to enjoy.
There was a great pool area that we didn’t take advantage of, as the weather in Houston in December was quite cold. Because we were there on a retreat, we also didn’t use the fitness center.

There are many restaurants in the Houston area, so we primarily ate away from the hotel. We ordered room service for breakfast one morning and ate at the restaurant Sol 7 the next morning. I was surprised that it was quite small, but the food was good, and there were many more tables outside where people could sit.
Chardon, a French bistro located on the ground floor, looked terrific and was always busy, so I assume it is pretty good. I would definitely give it a try next time.
If I am ever in Houston, I know where I will stay. The Thompson Houston was a delight, and at only 20K points per night, it’s a bargain. I 100% recommend it as a great stay—just get a view of the Houston skyline to make it even more special.
