If you like flexible points, this card earns 3 ThankYou® Points per dollar at supermarkets. Citi points can be transferred to airline partners like Flying Blue, Turkish Airlines, Avianca LifeMiles, Qatar Airways, and others, giving you plenty of ways to stretch your rewards.

While it doesn’t offer a grocery bonus category, it earns 2 miles per dollar on every purchase, making it a great option if you prefer keeping things simple. Those miles can be transferred to many airline and hotel partners or redeemed toward travel purchases.

Don’t Forget Rotating Bonus Cards

Some cards, like the Chase Freedom Flex℠, occasionally feature grocery stores as a quarterly 5% bonus category. If you activate the bonus and stay within the quarterly spending limit, these promotions can be one of the best earning opportunities all year.

The best grocery card isn’t always the one with the highest earning rate. It depends on what types of points you’re trying to earn and your travel goals. If you’re saving for international business class, transferable points are usually the most valuable. If you’re planning a hotel stay, earning directly with Hilton or Marriott may make more sense. (But also keep in mind that it usually takes a lot more Hilton and Marriott points to make a good redemption than it does with other types of points.)
