American Airlines has started offering free in-flight Wi-Fi for AAdvantage members. The move brings the carrier closer to competitors that already include complimentary onboard internet.
According to the airline, free Wi-Fi will be available across 100% of its narrowbody and dual-class regional aircraft. Once the rollout is complete, the service should be accessible on nearly every American flight.
AT&T sponsors the service, which is available only to members of American’s AAdvantage loyalty program. Because AAdvantage is free to join, most travelers can access in-flight internet without paying the fees American has historically charged on many routes.
American is rolling out free Wi-Fi across its fleet, with availability expanding throughout early 2026. The airline expects to offer the service on nearly every flight by early spring.
At launch, the rollout focuses on aircraft equipped with high-speed satellite connectivity, which includes most domestic routes and shorter-haul flights. American has not confirmed a timeline for adding complimentary Wi-Fi across its long-haul widebody fleet, which typically operates international routes.
The Wi-Fi supports high-speed browsing, messaging and streaming, though American has not shared details about device limits or whether performance will vary by aircraft type during the rollout phase.
Access to the free Wi-Fi will require AAdvantage membership, which is free to join.
American’s announcement follows similar moves by other major U.S. carriers. Delta Air Lines already offers free Wi-Fi to SkyMiles members on most domestic flights, while United Airlines has steadily expanded complimentary internet access across its fleet. Until now, American has often charged for onboard connectivity, with pricing and availability varying by aircraft type and route.

For passengers traveling with multiple devices or flying longer itineraries, Wi-Fi fees have long been an added friction point, especially on flights where pricing varies.
As American’s rollout continues, free in-flight Wi-Fi should become the default experience on most domestic and regional flights. Until the rollout is complete, availability will still depend on aircraft type, but the shift signals a broader move toward complimentary connectivity becoming standard rather than an add-on.
