Amsterdam is one of those rare cities that is both historic and modern. It’s not defined by a single landmark, but by the atmosphere, beauty, and lifestyle you experience everywhere you go. The canal system is unlike anywhere else in the world, and the city’s walkability, along with its famous bike culture, makes it a perfect destination to explore.
Amsterdam is, however, a city where hotel prices can soar, especially in peak travel seasons. There is often a small inventory, high demand, and year-round tourism, which means even average rooms can carry premium price tags. Award availability can be more limited than in some other European cities, so being flexible with your dates and planning ahead can help you get your preferred hotel in a prime location close to the canals, museums, and public transportation.
In this post, we’ll explore some of the best properties across all the major hotel chains in Amsterdam, including boutique gems, centrally located favorites, and a few splurge-worthy luxury stays you can book with points.

The Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht is a stylish boutique hotel along one of the city’s most picturesque canals. This hotel is playful and modern, creating a stay that feels uniquely Amsterdam. The location is also ideal for exploring the city on foot, with the Anne Frank House, Nine Streets shopping district, Rijksmuseum, and countless cafés and galleries all within walking distance.
Points Talk Squad member: “Andaz is up there with my favorite Hyatts. Such a fun place, right on the canal, with easy walk everywhere.”
Rooms are available from 25K Hyatt points per night, but this is one of those properties you’ll want to book as far in advance as possible due to limited points availability.

The Hyatt Regency Amsterdam is a modern hotel located in a quieter neighborhood just east of the city center. What makes this property more unique is its botanical design and greenery throughout, giving it a calmer, more relaxed feel compared to some of the busier central hotels. Rooms are more spacious here than many other hotels you’ll find in Amsterdam, and while it’s not directly in the middle of everything, it’s still just a short walk, bike ride, or quick tram ride from the canals, museums, and Dam Square.
Points Talk Squad Member: “We stayed at HR and LOVED it. Our favorite stay so far. Can use CAA if not Globalist to get the amazing breakfast spread. Also loved the location, and it was easy to hop on the metro or trolley. The Resistance museum is a few blocks away. We got two connecting rooms for a family of five, and it was perfect. Finally, the staff is really, really lovely.”

Sir Albert Hotel, a member of Design Hotels, is a boutique property set within a former 19th-century diamond factory. This hotel is historic, but modern, and is surrounded by cafés, boutiques, and local markets. The location is ideal for exploring the city, with Museumplein, the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and the famous Albert Cuyp Market all within easy walking distance.
Marriott uses dynamic pricing, so the number of points required varies by season and demand, but I was able to find rooms starting at around 71,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

The College Hotel Amsterdam, Autograph Collection, is a boutique hotel within a restored 19th-century school building. This hotel has so much historic architecture and is a highly sought-after property, especially given its location in one of Amsterdam’s most desirable neighborhoods. Its location is perfect for exploring the city’s cultural highlights, with the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Vondelpark, and Museumplein all just a short walk away. There’s also plenty of shopping and dining options nearby.
This property may be on the higher end of your points budget, coming in around 119,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, but its unique character, great location, and boutique feel can make it a worthwhile redemption if you’re looking for something a bit more special.

The Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel is a newly renovated hotel located right in the heart of Amsterdam. The ideal location makes it really easy to explore the Dam Square, the Royal Palace, canal cruises, and countless shops and restaurants that are all within walking distance.
At around 111,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, you can enjoy being in the center of the action.

The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is a true splurge-worthy property, and I’ve just added it to my “must stay” list! This hotel is set within six restored 17th and 18th-century canal palaces along the Herengracht Canal, with rooms overlooking the canal or a private garden. You can dine at a Michelin-star restaurant on the property and enjoy the spa after a long day of sightseeing.
Its location in central Amsterdam makes it easy to wander the many canals, museums, and historic corners without straying far from the hotel. If you’re dreaming of ultra-luxury, this one stands out. The price tag isn’t small at around 150,000 Hilton points per night, but for a couple of nights at a bucket-list property, it’s hard to beat the experience.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station sits right on the water and, more importantly, in the heart of everything in Amsterdam. Choosing this property is a great home base just steps from Amsterdam’s main train hub, so you can easily get into the city, making it an easy reach of Dam Square, the Royal Palace, the canals, museums, and plenty of shops.
Many rooms here will treat you to canal views, and the rooftop bar will give you a bird’s-eye view of Amsterdam. If you want a convenient, stylish stay without spending too many points, this one hits the mark.
Points rates will fluctuate based on the season, but it was fairly easy to find rates around 65,000 Hilton points per night.

The Canal House, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, is a property that can make you feel like you’re stepping into an intimate chapter of Amsterdam. This hotel is set within three restored 17th-century merchant houses along the Keizersgracht and offers delightfully elegant Dutch charm. The hotel puts you just steps from the Anne Frank House, Nine Streets, and Dam Square, making it an ideal base for wandering the canals, museums, cafés, and boutique shops.
I was able to find points at this property for around 90,000 Hilton points per night.

The Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam is a boutique hotel in the heart of Amsterdam’s City Centre, only a short walk from Centraal Station. Some would say that this hotel is in one of Amsterdam’s most convenient neighborhoods for exploring. You can easily explore the canal belt, Anne Frank House, Royal Palace, and Nine Streets shopping district, all of which are within walking distance
Take it from a Points Talk Squad Member:

I was able to find points nights starting at 50,000 IHG points per night, which is a great value compared to the cash price.

The Crowne Plaza Amsterdam – South is located in a quieter area just outside Amsterdam’s main tourist center. It’s about a five-minute walk to Amsterdam Zuid station, where you can quickly reach the city center, Schiphol Airport, and areas like the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. You won’t be right on the canals at this property; however, public transit makes it easy to get anywhere within the city.
It’s not as posh as the Kimpton, but for around 35,000 IHG points per night, this is a great option if you’re looking to stretch your points.

For your next trip to Amsterdam, the key is flexibility and booking early. If you can plan ahead and keep an eye on availability, Amsterdam offers some truly excellent points redemptions across Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, and IHG. And in a city as walkable and packed with things to do as this one, saving on your hotel means more room in the budget for canal cruises, museums, and the occasional stroopwafel stop.
