Pam
One of the easiest ways to get more value from your travel credit cards has nothing to do with earning points. It comes from using the credits that help offset annual fees.
As June 30 approaches, several valuable credits are about to expire. Some reset every quarter, while others are available only once every six months. If you don’t use them before July 1, you may lose them for good.
Take a few minutes to review your cards. You might be surprised by how much money is sitting on the table. Enrollment is required for select benefits.
Several cards offer benefits that reset every calendar quarter. If you don’t use them before June 30, they are gone for good.
The Business Platinum Card® from American Express (annual fee: annual_fees) includes a $50 Hilton credit each quarter. Eligible purchases made directly with Hilton properties can trigger the credit, making it an easy way to save on upcoming stays or to eat dinner at a local Hilton. We have also found that purchasing a Starbucks gift card will trigger these credits if the hotel has an on-site Starbucks. Several cards now offer credits for purchases made at participating Resy restaurants. If your card includes a quarterly Resy benefit, make sure you’ve used it before June 30. A dinner out now could save you money while allowing you to take advantage of a fresh credit starting July 1. My American Express Platinum Card® (annual fee: annual_fees) gives me a $100 credit at my favorite steakhouse, and I need to use that this week. If you have the American Express Platinum Card®, don’t forget about the quarterly $75 lululemon credit. This benefit can be used on eligible purchases at lululemon, making it a great opportunity to pick up travel-friendly clothing, athletic wear, or accessories while offsetting some of the card’s annual fee. Since the credit resets each quarter and unused amounts do not roll over, now is a good time to check your account and make a purchase if you haven’t already used this quarter’s benefit. A new credit will become available when the next quarter begins on July 1. I plan to go in this week and pick up a shirt and hat. Terms apply.
The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card includes a quarterly flight credit that can be used on eligible airline purchases. If you haven’t used your current quarter’s credit, now is the time to book a flight, select seats, pay baggage fees, or make another qualifying airline purchase before the benefit resets on July 1. I’ve never used this credit, but I should think about it in the future, as the card has decent travel protection. Terms apply.
The American Express® Gold Card includes a semi-annual Resy dining credit of $50. If you haven’t visited an eligible Resy restaurant during the first half of the year, June 30 is your deadline before a new credit period begins. I usually combine this credit with one of my $100 quarterly credits from another card at my local steakhouse. Terms apply.
The Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ card includes a semi-annual $50 credit at Giftcards.com. If you haven’t used your first-half credit yet, consider purchasing a gift card before June 30.
It’s one of the easiest benefits on the card because it can be used toward gift cards for retailers, restaurants, and other everyday spending categories. Beginning July 1, a new $50 credit becomes available. I’ll be using it that day for a DoorDash gift card.
One of our favorite benefits on the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card is the Hilton resort credit, which is split into two credits redeemable over separate six-month periods. If you have a stay planned at an eligible Hilton resort, don’t forget to use your current credit before it resets for the second half of the year. I just used two of mine on our trip to Legoland when we stayed at the Hilton there. Terms apply.

Hilton Grand Vacations Club MarBrisa Carlsbad is steps from Legoland.
The Citi Strata Elite℠ Card includes a semi-annual credit for Blacklane, a premium airport transfer and chauffeur service. If you have summer travel plans, this can be a great way to make your trip smoother while getting value from your card. I used this credit in New York City over the past six months and am excited to use it again this year!
Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection Credit
If you have The American Express Platinum Card® or The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, don’t forget about the semi-annual hotel credit for bookings made through Fine Hotels + Resorts® (FHR) and The Hotel Collection (THC). The benefit is divided into two $300 credit periods each year, with the first half ending on June 30.
Get up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually for up to a total of $600 in statement credits per calendar year on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® or The Hotel Collection* bookings through American Express Travel® using the Business Platinum Card®. *The Hotel Collection requires a minimum two-night stay.
To receive the credit, you’ll need to make an eligible prepaid booking through American Express Travel® before the deadline. In addition to the statement credit, FHR stays often include valuable perks such as daily breakfast for two, guaranteed late checkout, room upgrades when available, and property credits that can significantly enhance your stay. If you’ve been considering a luxury getaway, now is the perfect time to use this benefit before a new $300 credit becomes available on July 1.
I used my credits from three of our cards to book the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek for three nights in October. The credits covered virtually all my costs, but if I were going during the snow season, they definitely wouldn’t. Terms apply.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve® card also includes a semi-annual dining credit that can be used at participating restaurants booked through Sapphire Tables by OpenTable. If you’ve been planning a date night, a family dinner, or a special-occasion meal, now is a great time to use this benefit. Beginning July 1, a fresh credit will become available for the second half of the year. I can’t use this credit in my city, but I use it when I visit Denver or when traveling.
Another semi-annual benefit available on the Chase Sapphire Reserve® is the StubHub and Viagogo credit. Whether you’re purchasing concert tickets, sporting event tickets, theater performances, or other live entertainment experiences, this credit can help offset the cost. If you have an event you’ve been considering, make your purchase before June 30 to take advantage of the current credit before it resets for the next six-month period. I used this benefit already for The Outsiders on Broadway.

Before July arrives, log into each of your credit card accounts and ask yourself:
Many of us focus so much on earning points that we forget about the credits that help offset annual fees. Taking 15 minutes to review your accounts can easily save you hundreds of dollars while ensuring you’re getting the most value from the cards already in your wallet.
July 1 brings a fresh set of opportunities. Make sure you don’t leave any of the current ones behind. If keeping track of all of this is confusing, download our benefits tracker spreadsheet—I’d be lost without it!
