American Airlines Vacations Promo Offers Bonus Miles — Worth Booking a Package?

Toni Perkins-Southam

American Airlines Vacations is back with another bonus miles promotion. And at first glance, it looks like an easy way to earn extra AAdvantage miles on your next trip.

But like most vacation package deals, the real question isn’t how many miles you’ll earn. It’s whether booking the bundle will actually save you anything in the first place.

The Offer

American Airlines Vacations is currently offering bonus AAdvantage miles when you book a flight + hotel pac kage through its platform.

Right now, some of the more notable deals are tied to specific resort brands. For example, one of the current promotions for RIU Hotels & Resorts includes:

  • Up to 63% off select stays in Mexico, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, and Panama
  • Resort credits and additional perks
  • Up to 20,000 bonus AAdvantage miles on select packages in Pacific Mexico

To qualify, packages need to be booked from May 1 through May 31, 2026, with travel valid through March 27, 2027.

That headline “up to 63% off” comes with some fine print, though. The highest discount is limited to specific properties—like RIU Palace Costa Mujeres—and is only valid for select travel dates through June 30, 2026. Some other resorts and dates will come with smaller discounts, and perks like resort credits vary by property and are typically issued at check-in.

Where It Gets Tricky

A bonus of 20,000 AAdvantage miles sounds fantastic. But vacation packages don’t always guarantee the best price. Sometimes the bundled price is actually higher than booking flights and hotels separately. This is especially true if you’re using points for part of your trip, chasing elite benefits or booking flexible rates.

There are also a few trade-offs to keep in mind:

  • Hotel loyalty benefits won’t apply
  • You won’t earn hotel points or elite night credits
  • Changes and cancellations can be more restrictive

So while the bonus miles look appealing, they can come at the cost of flexibility or overall value.

The Bottom Line

This promotion can work, but only if the numbers make sense before the bonus miles enter the picture.

If the package price is competitive on its own, the extra AAdvantage miles are a nice boost. If it’s not, those miles probably won’t be enough to close the gap.
