We love that you can earn valuable and flexible points with Citibank. Citi ThankYou® Points may not always get the same hype as other programs, but they quietly pack a serious punch when it comes to booking luxury hotels and incredible flights
The earning potential is strong, and the real magic comes from Citi’s airline transfer partners. While the booking options may look a little different compared to other programs, there is so much value to unlock if you know where to look.
While we love Citi ThankYou® points and all the ways to use them, there are a few important things to know before you start applying. Citi has its own set of application rules. You typically need to wait 48 months between earning welcome offers in the same card family, and approvals can be sensitive depending on how many recent applications you have. Because of this, timing your application matters.
Citi does not have as many hotel transfer partners as some other programs, but you can still book stays through Wyndham and Choice Privileges. If you don’t want to use those hotel chain options, you can always book stays directly in the Citi travel portal. Booking this way opens up the option to book boutique properties when booking chain hotels directly with points might be limited.
At first glance, Choice might not scream luxury, but this is one of those programs where value is hiding in plain sight. Citi points transfer to Choice Privileges at a 1:2 ratio, which means your points are instantly worth double. That alone makes this option worth a second look.
But here’s where it gets really good. Choice has partnerships with boutique and high-end properties, especially in Europe, that can deliver serious value for a surprisingly low number of points. Hotels that would normally feel out of reach suddenly become doable since your Citi points go twice as far.

This is a spectacular use of your Citi points. This five-star experience captures the boutique feel perfectly and is a really compelling option for your stay in Helsinki. It is centrally located, and the Art Deco design makes it a fun home base. In addition to having a spacious European room, you will also get breakfast for free. Free room and free breakfast, what more do you need?
Hotel Christiania Teater, an Ascend Collection Hotel (Oslo, Norway)
Room rates range from 20,000 to 40,000 points per night

This is one of the best values in the Choice portfolio for Oslo. You get a five-star location and a boutique experience that would otherwise cost a fortune in one of the world’s most expensive cities. Like many Nordic properties, a full breakfast is included with your stay.
Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach
Room rates range from 15,000 to 30,000 points per night

Look no further for your classic beach getaway in Clearwater, Florida. This beautiful hotel has everything you need for the perfect family vacation without requiring many points. The hotel is clean, modern, and right on the water. And it’s perfect for young children because it’s simple enough to keep a schedule but elevated enough to feel relaxed.
American Airlines is hands down one of the best transfer partners in the Citi ecosystem. Citi is the only major transferable points program that gives you direct access to American Airlines miles. That alone makes Citi ThankYou® points incredibly valuable.
American Airlines has a massive route network, strong domestic availability, and some seriously underrated international partners like Qatar Airways and Japan Airlines.
Example 1:
Fly from Charlotte (CLT) to Miami (MIA) for around 8,000 to 10,000 miles.
Example 2:
Fly from Dallas (DFW) to London (LHR) in business class for around 57,500 miles.

I personally love having Citi points for this exact reason. When I cannot find availability through other programs, American Airlines often comes through. It has become one of my go-to options for both domestic trips and bucket list international flights.
If you are building a points strategy and want access to American Airlines, Citi ThankYou® points are not just a good option; they are essential.
Avianca LifeMiles is a convenient and simple way to book international business-class seats.
Real World Availability:
Flights from major US cities to Europe in business class can start around 60,000 to 84,000 points one-way.
Example:
Fly from New York (JFK) to Frankfurt (FRA) in business class for 84,000 points. The best part? No fuel surcharges and solid availability make this redemption an easy favorite.

Virgin Atlantic is one of our go-to programs for booking premium cabin flights.
Real World Availability:
You can book Delta One flights to Europe through Virgin Atlantic starting from around 57,500 points.
Example:
Fly from New York (JFK) to Porto, Portugal (OPO) in Delta One for 57,500 points. This is one of those redemptions that feels like you are beating the system in the best way.

JetBlue is what we choose when we want economy, but more enjoyable. Their economy product is not a bare-bones, snackless, no legroom situation. This product feels elevated without needing to splurge.
Real World Availability:
Since JetBlue uses dynamic pricing, you can score some seriously solid flight redemptions, typically ranging from 6,000 to 15,000 points one-way domestically and 12,000 to 18,000 from the US to many Caribbean hotspots.
Example:
Fly from New York (JFK) to Aruba (AUA) for 12,500 points, which is one of our favorite sneaky-good uses for a quick Caribbean escape. We love JetBlue for no-hassle travel!

Citi ThankYou® Points are among the most underrated currencies in the points-and-miles world. They may fly under the radar, but they unlock some of the best flight deals out there. Whether you are booking a quick domestic trip for a fraction of the points or flying business class across the world, Citi points give you the flexibility to travel smarter.
If you are willing to learn the transfer partners and hunt for those sweet spots, these points can take you just about anywhere. We cannot wait to hear where your Citi ThankYou® Points take you!
