Pam
Recently, a granddaughter’s wedding in Sacramento, California, gave me the opportunity to stay at another Kimpton hotel, the Kimpton Sawyer. If I’m not staying at a Park Hyatt (my fave), I am searching for a Thompson (in the Hyatt portfolio) or Kimpton (in the IHG portfolio). I had an Edit credit to use before January 1, 2026, so I thought this might be a perfect time to use it.
The Kimpton Sawyer stands out as one of Sacramento’s most stylish downtown hotels, with a high score of 4.4 out of 5 in reviews. It is located in Downtown Commons (DOCO) and directly connected to Golden 1 Center, which makes it an ideal choice for concerts, games, and exploring Old Town Sacramento, which is just a seven-minute walk from the hotel. In fact, my husband went to a Sacramento Kings game at the last minute the night we arrived! Pro tip: Go just after the game starts and save a bundle on a ticket!

View from our room.
I used 30,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards® and my $300 the Edit credit and paid $7.50 extra. Our total bill when we checked out, which included breakfast overages, valet parking, and tip, was $65.00.

Rooms felt clean and comfortable, but just a bit too stark and minimalistic for my taste. Especially after viewing the gorgeous lobby area! Expect floor-to-ceiling windows, contemporary décor, and quality bedding. Our room offered an impressive view of the Golden 1 Center and the downtown skyline. The bathrooms are sleek and spacious, with luxury touches typical of the Kimpton brand. In fact, the bathroom was much fancier than the rooms were.

The living area was not as nice as many other Kimptons I’ve stayed at, in my opinion.

We were greeted warmly and given an upgrade to a one-bedroom suite (not sure how often that happens). We were told about the Edit amenities and given a letter detailing them. Shortly after getting to our room, we were given some delicious candy and a choice of champagne or water.
The room had the typical Kimpton bag, which came in handy for running back and forth to wedding activities. They also had the typical morning coffee, tea, and hot chocolate station and the hospitality hour in the evening (though we were gone for that). I guess these things are how they justify a $25 resort charge per day, but it wasn’t worth it for us.
However, the staff was very pleasant and attentive throughout our stay. Valet parking was $45 a day, so our $100 hotel credit was spent on that instead of something fun, like massages.

Surprisingly, breakfast is not included if you use the restaurant; the Edit benefit is only an in-room credit of $30 per person. That doesn’t go very far when you include a service charge and a tip. And the breakfast was very mediocre.

The breakfast was just okay.
While there were several things I liked about this stay, it didn’t check all the boxes I expect from my usual Kimpton stays. We were also about 30 minutes from the wedding, so I wished we had chosen the La Quinta, which was closer. While a nice stay, it wasn’t the amazing stay that I usually get from a Kimpton. Still, if you are going to Sacramento, it might work for you.
