The points-and-miles world is full of opinions about getting the absolute maximum value from every single point. And while that advice can be helpful, sometimes you just have to block out the noise, ignore the spreadsheets, and book the trip anyway. Even if it is not the most optimal redemption on paper.
The entire point of traveling with points is to unlock experiences that would normally feel completely out of reach. And thanks to Capital One points, I booked an over-the-top, dream-level Disney vacation for my family. And I brought my parents along for the ride, too.

When I was nine years old, my parents took me to Disney World. It was one of the highlights of my childhood. Our trip was very much the budget version, though I had no idea at the time. My parents loved the experience but always wished we could have stayed at a Disney hotel and enjoyed all the perks. When we got home, they would say things like “one day we will go back and do it right.”
Well, life happened, and we never went back as a family.
Fast forward nearly twenty years. After learning what was possible with credit card points, I knew I had to make Disney happen. This time, the extravagant way. I took my mom, dad, husband, and our two kids, ages seven and five, to Disney World. And let me tell you, I did not skimp. We went big—huge, even.
Thanks to Capital One, our only out-of-pocket expenses were food, souvenirs, and a few extra magical experiences. Read below to see where we stayed and the magical park days we experienced. Once you have read about our special trip, you will be ready to learn my point strategy and how I turned a $20,000 trip to Disney World into a $ 3,000 trip instead, all thanks to the Point Talk Squad and Capital One points!

Our Deluxe Hotel
Traveling with six people meant one thing: we needed space. I booked a two-bedroom villa at Wilderness Lodge, one of Disney’s deluxe resorts, and it absolutely lives up to the hype.
The entire property feels like a grand wilderness lodge retreat, with cozy cabin vibes and Disney magic woven into every detail. Even the rooms had artwork of Mickey and Minnie enjoying the great outdoors. Subtle, thoughtful, and very Disney.

Our villa was massive and perfectly laid out for a multi-generational trip. The bedrooms were on opposite sides of the villa, with the kitchen and living room in between, which meant privacy for everyone. And the real MVP feature was two full bathrooms. No shower schedules. No negotiations. A true luxury.

The full kitchen was the cherry on top. We ate a hot breakfast in our room every morning. I used my complimentary DoorDash membership and the monthly ten-dollar credit to order groceries. Feeding six people a hot breakfast for six days cost us about $130 total. That alone felt like a Disney miracle.
Transportation to the parks was easy with Disney buses that ran like clockwork. We never waited more than ten minutes. Staying on the property also gave us early entry into the parks. Officially, early entry starts 30 minutes before opening, but realistically, we were walking in nearly an hour before park opening most days. Lower crowds, shorter lines, and calm mornings made all the difference. The extra time gave us the most for our ticket, and the kids were exhausted every night from all the fun we had.
We also used Lightning Lane single passes and multi-passes at each park. Since most of the trip was essentially free, spending an extra $1,000 to skip lines felt completely worth it. I was buying time. With kids this young, short lines are non-negotiable. Thanks to Lightning Lane, most of our waits were under ten minutes, with only a couple around thirty-five minutes.
I started planning this trip back in 2023, which meant a lot of anticipation and very high expectations. I was honestly nervous it would not live up to the hype. Disney exceeded every single expectation.
After booking the trip in May of 2025, I decided to keep it a secret from the kids just in case we had to postpone. I packed in secret and took them to the airport in their pajamas. Once we were through security, we told them where we were going. Their reaction was pure joy.

We flew Delta round-trip from Wilmington, North Carolina, to Orlando with a layover in Atlanta. I booked all six tickets using 200,000 American Express Membership Rewards® points and $33.60 in taxes. The flights were smooth with only a minor delay.
Once we landed in Orlando, we used the Genie Transportation Service to get to the hotel. Some of the best money spent on the entire trip. The driver met us at baggage claim and walked us straight to our Escalade. For $538, we had private transportation to and from the hotel, a case of bottled water, and a double stroller for the week. I arrived at Wilderness Lodge completely relaxed and worry-free.
We kicked off the trip at Animal Kingdom. We rode everything, watched all the shows, and soaked in the beauty of the park. We ended the day with the Mickey and Friends character meal at Tusker House, which was such a fun way to finish.

Tuesday was Hollywood Studios with the full Star Wars immersion. The highlight for my son was building his own droid. He was convinced it was the most magical thing that had ever happened. We rode everything and had more character interactions here than in any other park. We wrapped up the night with dinner at Woody’s Roundup BBQ, which turned out to be one of our favorite meals.

Wednesday was our rest day. We slept in, enjoyed the resort, and headed to Disney Springs for shopping and ice cream. Back at the hotel, the kids swam while we relaxed. Before dinner, we made one of my favorite souvenirs of the trip, Mickey tie-dye t-shirts at the resort. That night, we used our $25 Uber Eats credit from American Express® to order pizza to the room.
Thursday was my favorite day: The Magic Kingdom.
My daughter had her Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique appointment first thing in the morning. She picked her dress, hairstyle, and makeup, and the entire experience was flawless. Her joy is permanently etched into my heart. She truly felt like a Disney princess.

Right after her appointment, we had an early lunch at Cinderella’s Royal Table, where she met Cinderella, Jasmine, Aurora, Merida, and Ariel while dressed like a princess herself. It was pure magic. Those extra experiences cost about $800, and I never hesitated. Because points covered our stay and tickets, we could say yes to moments like this. Even my five-year-old son talked about how special it was to see his sister as a real princess. Core memories made.

Our final day was spent at Epcot. We rode the rides and explored the countries, stopping at every passport station. The kids loved the countries more than they enjoyed the rides! We ended the day with an early dinner in Italy.
In 2026, kids eat free with the Disney Dining Plan when a paying adult books. We chose not to use the dining plan because we knew we would be eating breakfast in our room. We did two character meals and two sit-down restaurants, with everything else being quick service.
Total food spending for six people was $2,100. Three meals came in around $375 for all six of us, and Cinderella’s Royal Table was $586. The dining plan would have cost us $3,000 even with kids eating free, so paying as we went made more sense for our family.

Capital One is the only credit card that allows you to fully cover Disney lodging or travel experiences. I booked our room and park tickets through a Disney travel planner, so the charges were coded as travel. Which allowed me to erase the lodging expense using Capital One points.
Yes, erasing travel is not always the best redemption on paper. But this trip was not about squeezing maximum cents per point. It was about creating once-in-a-lifetime memories for our family. We were even able to meet up with my husband’s family! And that was priceless.
Capital One is my favorite everyday card because you earn two times points on everything. Points post quickly, often within days, not at statement close. But the real magic is point sharing.
You can combine Capital One points from any Capital One cardholder. To do it, you simply call Capital One and provide the other person’s credit card number. The phone calls only take about five minutes, and the transfers are instant. This feature is what made the entire trip possible.
Over two years, my husband, parents, and I opened ten Capital One Credit Cards, earning a combined 1,629,589 Capital One points. We earned them through welcome offers, referrals, everyday spend, and using the shopping portal.
Together, we earned 1,325,000 points from bonuses and referrals alone. The remaining 304,589 points came from everyday spending and the shopping portal. My biggest flex was earning thirty-five points per dollar on Viator for an upcoming Bora Bora trip, which earned 28,000 points from two bookings. We also earned 29,232 from our Disney booking before we erased the charge.
This process took patience and time. Capital One does not follow the 5/24 rule, but spacing applications is key. I recommend waiting at least four months between applications to Capital One.

We booked six nights in a Two-Bedroom Boulder Ridge Villa at Wilderness Lodge. The villa sleeps nine and includes a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and family room. Our booking also included six four-day Park Hopper tickets and a Memory Maker Photos package.
Total cost was $14,616.10. We erased every dollar with points.
Our total out-of-pocket cost for six people was $3,200, or about $533 per person. Now that’s the magic of Disney on points. And that is exactly why we love points.

For Capital One products listed on this page, some of the benefits may be provided by Visa® or Mastercard® and may vary by product. See the respective Guide to Benefits for details, as terms and exclusions apply.
Six people, three generations, and one unforgettable deluxe Disney stay were all brought to life by the power of points. We walked away with a lifetime of memories for pennies on the dollar, and that is the real Disney magic. If you have been putting Disney off because of the expense, this is your sign to start planning. Because anything is possible with a little bit of work and pixie dust.
