Need a Positioning Hotel Near Miami? Review of Hyatt Regency Coral Gables

Pam

Recently, I went to St. Kitts with my daughter and stayed at the delightful Park Hyatt there. Unfortunately, flights to St. Kitts are usually redeyes from Denver or most of the West Coast, and I just don’t like those because I can’t find lie-flat seats. For that reason, I usually take a flight to Miami, spend the night, and fly out the next day to the Caribbean. If you’re ever in this kind of situation before a cruise or an early-in-the-day flight to the Caribbean, you may want to consider the Hyatt Regency Coral Cables as a positioning-flight or pre-cruise hotel option. Here’s my review:

Location From the Airport

We took a short Lyft ride from the Miami airport using my card_name credit. I only paid an additional $5 (after the credit) for the approximately 15-minute ride. (I used a different rideshare credit from another card for the return trip to the airport at the end of the trip.)

First Impressions

We were greeted warmly when we arrived, and my Globalist status was acknowledged at the front desk. They informed us we had a $15 credit to the market located in the hotel, but it was closed when we arrived about 11:00 pm.

Our room was a two-bed double and was very tastefully decorated. No upgrade other than a higher room was given, but it didn’t matter as this was a quick overnight stay.

The hotel definitely has “old world glam” vibes. Set right in the heart of Coral Gables, the hotel leans into classic Mediterranean design with arches, warm stone, and a courtyard that actually feels relaxing after a long travel day. Rooms are comfortable and functional, and you still get the full-service perks you’d expect from a Regency—pool terrace, gym, and on-site dining. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to experience those because our stay was so short.

The Redemption

This hotel is a Category 4 hotel, so I used a free-night certificate from card_name. Considering the cash price of the room the night of our stay, this was a great use of a free-night certificate!

Globalist Breakfast

We did take time to go to the complimentary breakfast in the morning, which included either the buffet or an item and a beverage off the menu.

Bottom Line

If I ever have to spend the night in Miami for an early morning flight, I will pick the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables. I didn’t have much time to explore it, but when you know, you know. This is my type of hotel!
