Hotel Review: Hyatt Regency Boston

My husband and I were invited to join Alex’s family for a Memorial Day weekend visit to Boston. If Boston is on your travel radar and you’re a World of Hyatt member, the Hyatt Regency Boston on One Avenue de Lafayette deserves a spot on your redemption shortlist.
The Points Redemption
Big news first: Hyatt just made some major changes to its award chart as of May 20, 2026, and you need to know what that means before you book. The old Off-Peak, Standard, and Peak pricing tiers are gone. We now have five tiers: Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, and Top. As a Category 5 property, the Hyatt Regency Boston now ranges from 15,000 points per night on the best-value nights all the way up to 35,000 on the highest-demand nights.
We booked before the award changes for 23K points per night. It would have been 25K points per night after the changes. Cash rates at this property run anywhere from around $160 on slower nights up to $400+ when the city fills up—graduation season, fall foliage, major events, you name it. When those cash rates spike, redeeming points here is a no-brainer. The key is to pull up the award calendar before you commit and grab those Lowest or Low-tier dates whenever you can.
The Location Is the Star
Honestly, the location alone makes this property worth your attention. The hotel sits right in the heart of the Theater District, inside the Lafayette City Center building, just a block southwest of Boston Common.
You’re a three-minute walk to Boston Common, five minutes to the Freedom Trail, and about ten minutes to the Harbor. For a girls’ trip, a family weekend, or a quick solo adventure, you could not ask for a better base camp. We walked almost everywhere and only took the T to a baseball game.
The Rooms
The rooms come with premium bedding, 55-inch flat-screen TVs, in-room safes, blackout curtains, and complimentary WiFi. I will say that I think the hotel is slightly outdated, but it is still a very nice stay.
I used a Suite Upgrade Award (SUA) on this stay and was upgraded to an Executive Suite—and wow, was it worth it. The extra space made such a difference, with a proper living area to spread out in after a full day of exploring. If you’re a Globalist sitting on SUAs, this is absolutely a property worth spending one on.
The Amenities
There’s an indoor pool, a bar and lounge, a full-service restaurant (Avenue One), and a fitness center on-site. Globalist members get free breakfast and waived destination fees, which is a fantastic perk and saves you real money in a city where brunch can easily run $25+ per person. We loved the buffet and never ordered off the menu. Made-to-order omelets and blueberry pancakes were delicious!
And the service, don’t get me started—it was phenomenal. We had eight people, and the staff at the restaurant could not have done enough for us. The last morning, they had our table reserved for us!
Bottom Line
The Hyatt Regency Boston is a reliable, centrally located property that I highly recommend. It’s not a flashy luxury resort, but it is a really smart use of points for anyone wanting to be in the middle of everything Boston has to offer. And if you’re a Globalist with an SUA burning a hole in your account, use it here! The suites are large and make it a perfect stay.
