Cancun on Points for Every Budget

Megan K.

If a beachy adventure to Mexico is on your travel wish list, you can use your points and miles to make it happen!

For those based in the Eastern or Central U.S., Cancun, Tulum, and Playa del Carmen are easily accessible and offer gorgeous beaches perfect for snorkeling, other water sports, or simply relaxing with a good book. There are numerous points resorts for whatever type of vibe you’re looking for, from relaxed to active to a party scene.

In this series of “for every budget” blog posts, we show you ways to get to a specific destination, whether you’re looking to splurge or save. You can choose one or mix and match to make your trip. So grab your piña colada and your calculator, and let’s get to paradise on points.

Low Points Price Flight – Delta Main Basic/Delta Main Classic

While Delta is certainly not known for being the most affordable airline on points, it’s hard to beat a four-plus-hour flight for 5,000 SkyMiles plus $60 in taxes! I found that in mid-May, though the prices vary widely depending on your dates.

The catch of this bargain points price is that you’re booking Delta’s “Main Basic” fare, which is restrictive. If you book this fare, you’re stuck with cancellation fees, Zone 8 boarding, and no seat selection. I’d probably choose the still-reasonable price of 9,000 SkyMiles (plus $60 in taxes) for Delta’s “Main Classic” ticket. This option lets you select your seat, board earlier, and cancel if needed.

As with all Delta flights, it’s a good idea to check partner airlines, such as Air France and Virgin Atlantic, to see if they have a better points price, but I didn’t find that for this flight.

Low Points Price Hotel – Hyatt Vivid Grand Island

The Hyatt Vivid Grand Island is a new, all-inclusive property on an island between Nichupté Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. It’s only about a 30-minute ride from the Cancun International Airport.

While not directly on the beach, the adults-only property offers shuttle service to its nearby beach club. The resort also has two main pools and a rooftop infinity pool. (The beach club also has its own pool.)

The Hyatt Vivid has plenty to keep you busy during your stay, such as  Spanish lessons, bingo, and tequila tastings.

As of early 2026, the Hyatt Vivid Grand Island was a Category B on Hyatt’s all-inclusive award chart. So a standard room will cost between 17,000 and 23,000 points per night. That’s a bargain, especially for an all-inclusive where the points cover your food and drinks. All-inclusive properties often increase in award categories, so this may change in the future.

Medium Points Price – JetBlue Economy

You can also use your JetBlue TrueBlue points to get directly from Boston to Cancun in economy. In this example, you can book for as little as 11,400 points plus $59.51 or as much as 20,600 points (plus taxes) if you want more perks.

The middle option of “Blue Extra” at 13,400 points seems optimal, especially if you want to have a better shot at overhead bin space.

If you are transferring points to JetBlue to book this flight, remember that not all points programs transfer one-to-one. Here’s the breakdown of points transfers as of early 2026:

Medium Points Price Hotel – Hilton Tulum

Located about a 90-minute drive south of Cancun International Airport is the Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya All-Inclusive Resorta family-friendly resort on the beautiful beaches of Tulum. The property offers many activities to entertain the whole family, from bike tours to yoga. The resort also has nine pools, a kids’ club, and a teen zone.

I found family-size rooms here in May for 80,000 Hilton Honors points per night. If you can stay five nights fully on points and also have Hilton status, you’ll get the fifth night freestretching your points further. Or if you’re planning a shorter visit, you could use a few of the squad’s favorite free-night certificates

Redeem four nights, get the fifth night free when you redeem points for a consecutive five-night Hilton hotel. You can receive a fifth Reward Night free, redeemable at that same hotel during that same stay.

High Points Price Flight – Delta First Class

If you have SkyMiles to splurge, you could also spring for first class on the Delta flight mentioned above. It’s priced at 52,000 SkyMiles plus $60 in taxes. That’s a bit more than I’d want to spend for a relatively short flight, but if you have the miles and want to splurge, go for it! This “First Classic” ticket will get you priority boarding, two checked bags, more legroom with a reclining seat, and meal service.

High Points Price Hotel – Impression Moxché by Secrets

About an hour from Cancun International Airport, you can splurge your Hyatt points at Impression Moxché by Secrets in Playa del Carmen. This is an adults-only property, ideal for a getaway with your Player Two or a girls’ trip with friends. Impression Moxché is all about luxury. Guests get butler service, gourmet meals, access to infinity pools, and much more.

Alex and Jess raved about their stay here in 2023. They were upgraded to a stunning balcony room with its own soaking tub and ocean views. Alex and Jess received fabulous service from their butler and enjoyed the variety of food and drinks the property offered.

This luxurious resort is not cheap, in cash or points. Impressions Moxché is a Category F on Hyatt’s all-inclusive award chart. So a standard room will cost between 42,000 and 58,000 Hyatt points per night. (I guess the “F” stands for fancy!) While that’s a lot of Hyatt points to part with for one stay, the cash rates at this property can be quite high. When I searched for dates in May 2026 (not even peak time for Mexico), cash rates were nearly $1,000 per night!

Bottom Line

Whatever Mexican getaway you’re dreaming of, your points can take you there. Which option are you booking?
