Reader Success Story: Secrets Impression Moxché

Pam

Marci sent in her reader success story to the Secrets Impression Moxché, which is one of our favorite stays, too. Here it is:

During the fall of 2024, my husband (P2) began struggling with clinical depression and eventually resigned from his high-stress job. Needless to say, traveling hasn’t been a priority; instead, we’ve been focused on cutting back and living on one salary. However, we still have our usual monthly expenses (and unexpected emergencies—LOL), so we’ve continued opening cards. When his depression improved this spring, I decided to book us a last-minute trip. Going all-inclusive was the only way I could justify taking a vacation, since we didn’t want to spend extra money on meals and activities at other destinations every day.

I’d heard so many wonderful things about Secrets Impression Moxché (including Jess and Alex’s trip from episode 46 of the Points Talk® Podcast), and it was top on my list. While it can be difficult to find availability using points for such popular destinations, it IS possible and often easier when booking at the last minute. I searched every night for a couple of weeks, trying to find four consecutive nights of availability that aligned with decent flight redemptions and dates when we weren’t already obligated to be home for my high school son’s activities. In the end, we booked our April 18th trip on April 8th, just 10 days in advance! Here’s how we did it:

I first started in points and miles back in 2016 when the Chase Sapphire Reserve® was unveiled with the 100k welcome offer. However, I only became more passionate about the hobby in 2021, and I started listening to the Points Talk® podcast when it began in 2023. I learned so much and even wrote a review

We already had a stash of Chase Ultimate Rewards® from multiple welcome offers. More recently, P2 opened a Chase Business card (using my referral link) in September 2024 for a 120,000-point welcome offer, just before the 40,000-point referral bonus ended. We booked Impression Moxché using Chase Ultimate Rewards® transferred to Hyatt: 58,000 points per night x 4 nights = 232,000 points. No resort fees and taxes are charged when booking with points (cash price = $4806).

So much delicious food!

Flights to Mexico

Each of us opened the Hawaiian World Elite Mastercard in February 2025 and earned 60,000 miles. We then transferred those miles into our Alaska accounts. We booked American Airlines flights from PHX to CUN via Alaska Airlines with 12.5k miles and $52 in taxes each. (The cash price would have been $478 per person.) Return flights were CUN to PHX via Southwest® with a Companion Pass for 11,500 miles plus $77 in taxes each.

We spent $75 on the Lyfts to and from our home to Phoenix, $167 on transportation to and from the resort in CUN, and around $200 in tips.

Bottom Line

I sometimes feel self-conscious when friends and family see we are traveling while my husband is still unemployed (and I am often complaining about finances, LOL). Still, it’s incredibly validating to know that the trip was practically FREE!

Enjoying a great vacation!

We spent about $700 on taxes, ground transportation, and tips for a vacation valued at nearly $7,000!!! I seriously get an endorphin rush whenever I think about all of the amazing trips I’ve taken with my family and the incredible value I’ve gotten from this hobby.

As my life and financial circumstances change, I am especially grateful to the PTS and the entire points-and-miles community for all that I have learned! I am mostly thankful for being able to take some time away from our teen boys and reconnect with my husband during this difficult time and in such a luxurious and relaxing environment. It was truly incredible!
