What Changed With Bilt’s Card 2.0 Rewards—And How Housing Earnings Work Now

Toni Perkins-Southam

After rolling out its revamped Bilt Card 2.0 lineup, Bilt Rewards updated how cardholders earn points on rent and mortgage payments. The company says the changes are meant to simplify the experience and address confusion around fees and point earning tied to housing payments.

At a high level, Bilt has clarified one key point. Cardholders will never be required to pay a fee to earn rewards on rent or mortgage payments. Instead, members now have two fee-free paths to earning Bilt Points on housing costs. The right option depends on how they prefer to earn rewards

Two Ways To Earn on Rent and Mortgage Payments

Bilt now allows cardholders to choose between the following options, which can be changed month to month.

Fee-Free Housing Rewards Based on Spending

Cardholders can earn points on rent or mortgage payments without a transaction fee. The earning rate depends on how much they spend on everyday purchases each month.

  • Spending at least 75% of your rent or mortgage amount on everyday purchases unlocks 1x points on housing payments
  • Matching or exceeding your full rent or mortgage amount in everyday spending can unlock up to 1.25x points

The Bilt app shows cardholders how close they are to each monthly earning tier. If they don’t reach the minimum non-housing spending requirement, Bilt says they’ll receive a baseline 250 points on their housing payment.

Under this option, cardholders earn Bilt Points only on housing payments and do not earn Bilt Cash on those transactions.

This option rewards cardholders who put more non-housing spending on their Bilt card. It does not require any fees or extra steps.

Bilt Cash–Based Housing Rewards

Bilt’s previously announced Bilt Cash system remains in place. Cardholders earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday purchases and can use it to unlock points on rent or mortgage payments. Bilt says members never have to pay out of pocket to earn housing points using this method.

What Else Changed—and What Didn’t

Bilt also removed the prior cap on housing-related point earnings. Members can now earn across multiple properties without an annual limit. The underlying benefits of Bilt’s three credit cards—Blue, Obsidian, and Palladium—remain unchanged, including earning structures, credits, and welcome offers.

Cardholders choose their preferred housing rewards option during card activation and can adjust it over time as their spending patterns change.

Overall, the update gives members more flexibility in how they earn points on their largest expense. Housing payments remain fee-free regardless of which rewards path they choose.
