Hyatt Is Winding Down Its American Airlines Partnership—and Teaming Up With Delta

American Airlines and Hyatt are calling it quits(ish) on their enhanced loyalty partnership, but World of Hyatt already has another airline waiting in the wings.
Hyatt and Delta Air Lines announced a new long-term partnership on Sept. 9, 2026, the same day Hyatt and American confirmed they would wind down their existing relationship. The new Delta partnership will launch in the upcoming months, but many of the details are still under wraps.
For now, here’s what American AAdvantage® and World of Hyatt members need to know.
American and Hyatt Partnership Is Winding Down
American and Hyatt haven’t announced just one single date for when their partnership will disappear. Instead, they are phasing the partnership out as the current earning years for both programs come to an end. If you want to keep earning benefits during the transition, you’ll need to link your AAdvantage® and World of Hyatt accounts by Nov. 15, 2026.
AAdvantage® members who link their accounts by the deadline can keep earning World of Hyatt awards through AAdvantage® Loyalty Point Rewards through Feb. 28, 2027. Meanwhile, World of Hyatt members with linked accounts can continue earning AAdvantage® awards through Hyatt Milestone Rewards through Dec. 31, 2026.
Fortunately, there is one perk that isn’t going away. AAdvantage® members can still choose to earn 500 AAdvantage® miles instead of World of Hyatt points on eligible Hyatt stays after the broader partnership ends. Just make sure to provide your AAdvantage® number at check-in.

Hyatt Is Teaming Up With Delta
As its American relationship winds down, Hyatt is launching an exclusive new loyalty partnership with Delta. Exact launch timing hasn’t been announced, but Hyatt says the first benefits will focus on elite members of World of Hyatt and Delta SkyMiles®.
Eligible World of Hyatt elite members will be able to earn Hyatt points on qualifying Delta airfare purchases in eligible fare classes and vice versa—Delta Medallion members will also be able to earn SkyMiles on qualifying stays at participating Hyatt hotels.
Hyatt and Delta haven’t revealed earning rates just yet, or which elite tiers will qualify, or even the exact launch date. They say more details are coming soon.
Bottom Line
If you use the American-Hyatt partnership, make sure your accounts are linked by Nov. 15 so you can take advantage of the remaining benefits.
After that, all eyes turn to Delta. Dual earning on Hyatt stays and Delta flights sounds promising, but we’ll have to wait for the full terms to see just how valuable the new partnership will (or will not) be.
