Reader Success Story: Maui Babymoon

Michelle sends us her reader success story about her Maui babymoon!
I decided to book my family a trip to Maui for a little babymoon/anniversary trip a couple of months before my husband and I were expecting our second baby.
Flights
To get there, I booked three round-trip flights from Honolulu to Maui on Southwest . I have the Companion Pass®, so we actually only paid taxes for the third ticket. I had earned these points through a Southwest card welcome offer.
Lodging
We booked one night at the Andaz Maui with Chase Ultimate Rewards® transferred to Hyatt and used a Guest of Honor award to get Globalist benefits like free breakfast and free parking. We arrived at the hotel mid-morning and tried to see if our room was ready, but it wasn’t. I asked if we could get breakfast that morning, but the worker helping me said it would only be for the next morning.
I also asked if there were any suites available to upgrade to, but he said there were none. As we were about done checking in, the worker said that we could actually go and get complimentary breakfast today too! Not sure if it was because our room wasn’t ready or because we were celebrating, but that helped kill time until our room was ready.
The breakfast buffet was good! My son, who has a nut allergy, was also able to find things to eat. As we were wrapping up, we got a notification that our room was ready. Because we mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary and babymoon, we got to pick up a gift from their shop. We also got sent some goodies after we arrived in our room because of our Guest of Honor status. These were nice extra touches.
We just hung out at the pool for both days. My son liked the pool all the way at the bottom of the hill (closer to the beach) because it was shallow. They had music at the pool and passed out free snacks, like mochi ice cream. We grabbed dinner and dessert at a place nearby the first night and then closer to the airport on our second day.
Overall, it was a great time for us and a nice weekend getaway. We will definitely be back again on points! I paid 16,682 points for the Southwest flight and $33.60 for the taxes and fees.
